Make money online blog, JohnChow dot com penalized with much lower Google Page Rank?
This post might be irrelevant to any Internet hot trend and buzz, it’s just a post to express my personal view about some phenomenon over the Internet, it’s about the Google Page Rank that has got many “Internet money seekers” obsessed. And the story will center around JohnChow.com. I’m not a consistent reader of JohnChow.com but sometime I’ll drop by to read how this guy makes big bucks from the Internet. In my mind, he’s ever made up $20-30K (USD) per month, which is quite lucrative by doing few hours at home a day.
Today I wanted to find out more about Kontera contextual link ads (Kontera.com), as my other blogs don’t do that well using Kontera. And I remember that I’d ever captured with my eyes that JohnChow.com ever made $1,000+ per month from Kontera (John Chow always likes to share how much money he’s ever made online every month), so I tried to search Google for several combinations such as “Kontera JohnChow $1000 per month”, “make money online”, “make money online JohnChow dot com”, surprisingly I don’t get any results appearing on the first page of searched result that point to the real JohnChow.com.
If you searched Google now for “make money online”, you’ll get other advertising firms like BidVertiser to stay on top of the first page of search result. And I did a further check of JohnChow.com with my Google toolbar, it has now been dropped to a page rank 3. I’ve never kept track if Google has done any PR update recently. But as far as I remember JohnChow.com was ever once staying at PR 6 and then it got penalized to PR 4 and now down to 3. The worst is while searching for”Johnchow” or “John chow” or “John Chow dot com” those appear on top of the first page of Google searched result are the JohnChow’s clones such as johncow.com (It’s cow not chow) and notjohnchow.com.
I guess this time JohnChow.com has got Google pissed off and they penalized JohnChow.com with a much lower PR. One of the reasons could be JohnChow.com has got many others to use the “Google Bomb” tactic, getting many others to use the anchor text “make money online” to link to JohnChow.com. And it ever once appeared on top 5 of Google search results for searching for “make money online”. Anyway, I still wonder how much traffic that JohnChow.com still receives after getting penalized by Google since he’s got a huge FeedBurner readership of 20K+. I guess the guy is still doing well. Maybe.
